You have heard these hundreds of times without being told what they mean. Here they are, with the part the subtitles leave out: who you are allowed to say them to.
The words in every fan chat
These four show up constantly, and three of them have no clean English translation. That is why the subtitles keep changing them.
Oppa, unnie, hyung, noona
The question every fan asks eventually. Which one you use depends on your own gender as much as theirs, and calling an idol the wrong one is the fastest way to out yourself as new.
What they say to you
Lines you hear at the end of a live or a fan meeting. Worth recognising by ear.
What you can say back
If you ever get the chance - a fan sign, a video call event, a comment they might read. The polite form matters here.
Most of these are casual forms. Idols are usually older than they look and always strangers, so if you are writing to one, use the polite line on each page rather than the big one at the top. The difference is explained in formal or casual.
